Connecting Agriculture Producers and the Charitable Food Network
March 9, 2021 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
FreeOn Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at 11:00 am, the Lancaster County Agriculture Council in collaboration with the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, Feeding Pennsylvania, Blessings of Hope, and the Penn State Ag Law Center will be sponsoring a webinar for agriculture producers to review ways for them to connect with the charitable food system in Lancaster County, particularly about sharing surplus agriculture product. The webinar is planned for one hour.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, food banks, senior meals programs, and various nutrition programs have been challenged to find fresh dairy, eggs, meat, and produce for the greatly expanding need for fresh food among those affected by the epidemic. Farmers frequently have excess product that they may wish to contribute but lack the information on how to contribute and whether there is any compensation for their donation.
This webinar features Joe Arthur from the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank talking about how to donate even at the last minute; Tom Mainzer from Feeding Pennsylvania sharing information on government programs that reimburse producers; David Lapp from Blessings of Hope speaking to connecting with that organization, and Brook Duer from the Penn State Ag Law Center providing information on deductions available through the IRS for making donations and protection from legal liabilities. Dr. Scott Sheely from the Lancaster County Agriculture Council will moderate.
Contact info@lancasteragcouncil.com with “Charitable Food” in the subject line to register for the Zoom webinar. This program is free and provided by the Lancaster County Agriculture Council.
